Active Multi Vite is a vegetarian-friendly formula providing a combination of vitamins and minerals that help support bone and muscle health. It is estimated that nearly one third of Canadians have low vitamin D levels.2 Vitamin D promotes the activity of bone cells for proper bone remodeling, and helps absorb and use calcium and phosphorus for normal bone mineralization.2 Research demonstrates that 600 IU of vitamin D daily helps maximize bone health in adults.3,4 Among adults over 70 years of age, 800 IU daily helps maximize bone health and may help decrease the risk of hip or non-vertebral fractures by nearly 25%.4,5 Beta carotene is source of vitamin A that further contributes to the development and maintenance of bones and teeth. Approximately half of magnesium is located in bones, where it stimulates bone forming osteoblast activity.6 Magnesium is also essential for promoting muscle function as it competes with calcium for binding sites on proteins that regulate muscle contractions.6 During rest, magnesium is bound to these sites; however, during periods of low magnesium, calcium binds the proteins, which may result in hypercontractibility and muscle cramps.6 As nearly 80-90% of magnesium is lost after food processing, its supplementation helps to maintain good health.6
